The Nambe badlands are a sandstone semi-arid area near the Nambe Pueblo. At the trailhead you will find an unlocked gate (see the map marker linked below). For more info, I recommend Hiking Adventures in Northern New Mexico as a guide.

    Suggestions:

    1. Look for the gate soon after you pass the Leaving Nambe Pueblo sign on 503 heading east and north.

    2. Consider the area for winter hiking. Nambe is about as warm as you going to find in northern New Mexico. If there is no snow on the ground and you are comfortable walking in Santa Fe (for instance) then a hike in the Nambe Badlands should be fine. The problem with snow is that it melts and leaves the ground muddy and slippery.
